The Green Man

Image
Each year we get a Green Man, who is burnt at the end of the festival. Many people say if he wasn't burnt he won't get angry and make it rain every year.  Anyway, here he is in various incarnations: 2009 The first Green Man arrived in 2009, and to be honest was pretty scary! I guess that's because all my photos are at night, but still, this must have given some people nightmares! 2010 For some reason I can't find a photo from 2010. Was there one? If you've got a photo and don't mine me posting send it to me! 2011 This year's Green Man looked for friendly, and had a great set of foot print leading up. 2012 This Green Man was standing rather than sitting, and we had a cool photo frame to look through. 2013 By 2013 the Green Man had become a serious construction! You could get in side this one, climbing the steps. 2014 The 2014 Green Man had the most amazing face! 2015 2015's Green Man was a less...

The Stages - 2017

Image
The Mountain stage now has the weaving that we saw on the Walled Garden last year, creating the patterns at the side. The Green Man lettering at the side is still there, and kids had a great time playing in it! Not really a stage, but this is 'Round the Twist', a party tent. I'm not sure if Far Out was bigger this year - it looked the same but felt bigger inside.  Here were the mighty Sleaford Mods. The Walled Garden retained the weaving, but this time seemed bigger too, and still at the centre. I've not got main pictures of Babbling Tongues, but here's one inside, with Pete Paphides, James Yorkston and Johnny Lynch And finally, one of Chai Wallahs, which has pretty much been the same every year.

Cups

Green Man now use stackable plastic cups - these are great! Here are the cups from 2015 - 2017:

The Stages - 2016

Image
No major changes to the Mountain stage in 2016, apart from one glorious thing! A ban on chairs on the bank.  OK, not everyone follows it, but it's massively improved things.  Oh, and the big 'Green Man' letter is back, which is nice. No Major changes to the Far Out this year so you just get a picture of Lush playing inside. The Walled Garden stage moved to a more central position, and is now back to being curved in shape.

The Stages 2015

Image
It's all change for 2015! The Mountain stage is now rectangular, and looking fantastic! Curiously though, we lost the Green Man writing at the side of the stage. The Far out is now striped and has the screen outside for Thursday evening - a good idea. ...and looks much better inside than this soggy photo: The walled garden stage also had a make over, following the design of the main stage.

The Stages - 2014

Image
2014 is the last year of the curved Mountain Stage... This year we see it really nicely decorated with great big Green Man writing at the sides.

The Stages - 2013

Image
For some reason I only have pictures of the mountain stage from 2013.  The screens are back, but we've lost all the nice banners. There is, however, a massive gorilla at the side of the stage...

The Stages - 2012

Image
Unlike last year there were no TV screens on the mountain stage in 2012.  The Green Man sign looked great though. Mountain Stage 2012 Curiously the Far Out did get screens... ...and mud... The Walled Garden stage was the same as last year, apart from the mud. I can't remember who this poor person is, but as you can see nobody could get near the stage.

Line Up - 2005

I've lost my programme to 2005, so I'll gradually add to this as I remember things. There may be mistakes here!  I've reconstructed some of this from my iTunes playlists/library and the Way Back Machine Green Man 2005 was held in Baskerville Hall, and had two stages, on outdoor (the main stage) and one indoor, called the Folkey Dokey.  The Folkey Dokey was tiny, and full a lot. Friday19th August Main Stage The Incredible String Band Adem Daimh Brigyn Folkey Dokey Josephine Foster Voice Of The Seven Woods Woodbine Jack Harris Gareth Pearson Saturday 20th August: Main Stage: Bonnie 'Prince' Billy & Matt Sweeney Alasdair Roberts Malcolm Middleton It'S Jo & Danny Aberfeldy Lone Pigeon Half Cousin Scatter My Latest Novel Mi And L'Au Camera Folkey Dokey Wizz Jones Pedro Richard James Good Morning Captain Charlotte Greig Danseizure 9 Bach Lionshare Andrew Hockey Hush The Many Lonepine Sunday 21st Au...

The Stages - 2011

Image
The stage itself is pretty similar to last year, but note the cool things around the side - the big daff and the flags. 2011 Mountain Stage If you've read more of this you are going to think I'm obsessed with chairs (I am!). Look have things have changed since 2007.  In the picture above most people have plonked on a chair.  Compare this to 2007 below.  What's happened! 2007 Mountain Stage The Walled Garden stage is now a full proper stage (but in the corner). 2011 Walled Garden Its fun to compare that to the weird stage from 2009... 2009 Courtyard The Far Out now has  a cool sign... 2011 Far Out . .. and still has a fairly small stage. 2011 Far Out

The Stages - 2010

Image
All my photos from 2010 seem to be of the mountain stage.  But there has been a big change - the introduction of TV screens! The stage itself still seems to be similar to previous years.  You can now see it getting busier, and people seeming to start putting chairs up where they would have sat on grass. I'm pretty sure this was also the first and only time we've had someone come up from the main stage in a giant bubble: Wayne Coyne from Flamin Lips.

The Stages - 2009

Image
There were still no screens in 2009, but the decoration at the side of the stage has returned. Again in 2009 most people we happy on the grass rather than in chairs... Camera Obscura on the main stage... The far out stage had moved to the top of the site by 2009, and I'm pretty sure is the same tent that we have today. This is also the first time I've got a picture of a stage in Einstein's garden in this position, so I'm guessing it's the first time it was there.  This version looks pretty mad!
